The availability of genetically manipulated mammals (mice and<\/strong><\/em><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em><strong>rats) and of sophisticated electrophysiological techniques, susceptible of being applied in<\/strong><\/em><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em><strong>behaving animals during the acquisition of new motor abilities, have largely facilitated<\/strong><\/em><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em><strong>his approach.<\/strong><\/em><\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em><strong>Our group has studied for years the contribution of sensory, motor, premotor, hippocampal, <\/strong><\/em><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em><strong>and prefrontal circuits to non-associative, pavlovian, and instrumental learning paradigms. <\/strong><\/em><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em><strong>For this, we have recorded activity dependent changes in strength in cortical and subcortical <\/strong><\/em><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em><strong>synapses during the respective acquisition process.<\/strong><\/em><\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em><strong>Recently we have concentrated our attention to the contribution of prefrontal circuits to<\/strong><\/em><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em><strong>the acquisition and storage of instrumental learning tasks, including cooperative learning<\/strong><\/em><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em><strong>and decision making in mice and rats. \u00a0The main hypothesis of our studies is that learning <\/strong><\/em><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em><strong>is the result of the activity of wide cortical and subcortical circuits activating functional<\/strong><\/em><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em><strong>properties of involved synaptic nodes.
